Norristown State Hospital Residents Learn About Farm Park

The southern border of the Farm Park is shared with the Norristown State Hospital.  Several Farm Park trails pass freely through and around the hospital and on many occasions, residents of the hospital come to enjoy the charms and serenity of our park.  In February, the FPPA was invited to meet with hospital residents and staff to give an informative presentation about the Farm Park

This presentation is part of a lecture series designed to inform people living in the hospital of the resources and opportunities available in the community plus self-help techniques to assist in recovery techniques.  The concept is to give patients ideas and strategies to be successful and satisfied when they leave the hospital.

So on Monday, February 11, board members Ed Duffy, Sue Duffy, and Joe Gallagher along with over 100 residents and staff gathered in building 53 to share information and about the park.  In addition, on the following Friday, Chas Woods, President of the Stony Creek Anglers, gave a well-received presentation on their work with the trout nursery.

Ms. Rebecca Rohrbach of the Norristown State Hospital Vocational Services wrote,

Everyone truly enjoyed the presentation that you gave on the Farm Park last week.  I received positive feedback from people who attended the talk.  Thank you for your time and support in bringing a very nice afternoon to the people who attended the presentation!!!  P.S. Chas Woods gave a very interesting presentation on Friday.  If you talk to him please tell him I said thank you for his nice talk about the Stony Creek Anglers.”

It was gratifying to see that the Farm Park can play a positive role in helping mentally challenged individuals progress toward self-sufficiency.
